Refraction Media is a content company specialising in STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths.

Refraction undertakes end-to-end project management of eye-catching publications, apps, videos and animation, writing and education resources that excite people about STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). We believe that STEM is the future – and we aim to create the next generation of inspired people who can use their STEM skills to make a better planet.

Co-founders Karen Taylor-Brown and Heather Catchpole started Refraction Media in 2012 after both becoming redundant from our previous roles, and deciding over the wrap-up pub conversation that we had a business idea worth aiming for. We quickly developed a great team of people and went to our client partners to see if they shared our faith. They did, and five years later we are delighted to be the leading STEM publishers in Australia.

In 2015 we won Small Publisher of the Year at the Publish Australia awards, beating out some serious competition in sports and lifestyle amongst others. We’ve been finalists in Telstra’s small business awards (best Start-up, 2015; Telstra Business Woman of the Year, Karen Taylor-Brown, 2015). We aim high and we work with some of Australia’s top corporates, universities and institutions to deliver effective, excellent content that creates exciting results. You can learn more about our products and our services. Or you can chat, skype, or meet with us – we love to collaborate, and to hear what you want to achieve through STEM in the future.

Our team includes award-winning writers, designers, web-developers, games creators, educators, editors, sub-editors, publishing experts, sales managers and business developers who have a passion for the value of STEM in society. We have worked with many of Australia’s most exciting innovators in STEM including Google Australia, the NRMA, the Office of the Chief Scientist, the University of Melbourne, the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Curtin University and many more.
